Types of Hammock Chair Stand

There are several types of hammock chair stand that can be broken down into the following broad categories:

  • U-Shape – This is my preferred style as it offers a well-balanced structure that can hold a good amount of weight whilst still looking good.
  • C-Shape – One of the most popular styles as they can fit into most spaces, although the single arm can be a weak spot if the build quality is not up to standard.
  • O-Shape – These are generally associated with egg chairs, although can be used for hammock swings and chairs too.
  • Swing Style – This style resembles a children’s swing in a park, they are the strongest type of stand although aren’t as elegant to look at.

Best Hammock Chair Stands

The best hammock chair stands on the market right now are:

Below you’ll find the pros and cons of each recommendation. At the end of the article, I’ve created a comparison table where you can see the specs and features side-by-side.

Best Overall: Sorbus Adjustable Stand

Pros:

Adjustable height
Sturdy design with reverse U-shape base
Good value for money

Cons:

Only suitable for level ground
8.3
Durability8
Portability8
Design & Features9
Value for Money8

The best hammock chair stand is the Sorbus stand which is made from steel tubing and is suitable for holding hammock chairs, swings and egg chairs.

It uses a reverse U-shape style and has a weight limit of 330lbs which is among the best-rated of those I reviews. It will easily hold one person and your child or favourite pet could even hop on too.

One of the biggest selling points is the adjustable height which makes it very versatile. You can change the height anywhere between 79”- 93” (201-236cm) using the screw knobs on the main legs. This makes it the tallest stand when fully extended but also allows you to make it more compact when used in indoor spaces.

The stand is easy to put together with locking clips that don’t require any tools. It’s suitable for outdoor or indoor use, although as with all stands, I’d recommend storing them away during the harsh winter months to prolong its life.

With all of these great benefits, you might expect this stand to be expensive. However, you’ll be surprised to learn that it’s actually one of the more affordable choices, so now there’s no reason not to buy it. The only thing to keep in mind is that it must be used on level ground.

Best for Indoors: Sunny Daze U-Shape Stand

Pros:

Small footprint for compact spaces
Shorter height for low ceiling rooms
Reliable brand well-known in hammock industry

Cons:

Not suitable for larger hammock stands
6.8
Durability7
Portability7
Design & Features7
Value for Money6

Sunny Daze are one of my favourite stand manufacturers and occupy the top spot in my guide to the best hammock stands. But they also have several great hammock chair stands too including the S-stand, C-stand and this U-stand.

The U-stand is named due to the layout of the legs. It’s sold as an egg chair stand but it’s equally suitable for hammock chairs as the two are very interchangeable.

Keep in mind that the stand is a fixed height at 76” (193cm) which makes it one of the shorter stands, this is why it’s my top recommended stand for indoors as it will fit in most homes.

Like most stands here it is made from steel tubing and it has one of the highest weight capacities at 330lbs which is equal to my top pick, the Sorbus.

Weighing 41lbs (18.6kg), it comes in at the average weight for a hammock chair stand so it’s not too heavy for indoor use.

Budget Pick: FDW C-Stand

Pros:

Cheapest of the stands reviewed
Quick and easy to set up

Cons:

Single arm is susceptible to damage
Limit use to solid surfaces
7
Durability6
Portability7
Design & Features6
Value for Money9

If you’re looking for the cheapest hammock chair stand, then this simple stand from FDW might be worth considering.

The stand is designed for both indoor and outdoor use, however, I’d recommend that you limit its usage to solid surfaces because the legs need to remain well balanced to stay steady.

Like several of the stands I’ve already shared, this one is also made from steel. Although the weight limit set by the manufacturer is 450lbs, many users have reported that 300lbs is a more realistic weight that it will hold comfortably.

One of the things that let this stand down is the design. The stand relies on a single point of contact between the base and the main part of the stand, this means that it’s more susceptible to being damaged than the other stands.

The stand is a good budget pick, however, if you can afford to pay that bit extra for a different design such as the Sorbus, then you’ll reap the rewards in the long term.

Best Wooden Stand: Christopher Knight

Pros:

Elegant design
Long lasting when treated regularly with varnish
Great for the backyard

Cons:

Most expensive stand
Not portable due to weight
6.8
Durability10
Portability3
Design & Features9
Value for Money5

If you want something that’s as decorative as it is functional, then the wooden hammock chair stand from Christopher Knight offers both.

The curved design gives it an elegant look and the teak-finish larch wood has been oil treated to ensure it will stand up to the elements.

As you’d expect from a wooden stand, it’s much heavier than the steel or aluminum stands at 62lbs (28kg) which is more than three times the weight of the Kammok swiftlet. However, it’s intended as a more permanent feature so you won’t be lugging it around once it’s built.

Whilst you could use it indoors, the size and weight of this stand is much better suited to use in the backyard. If leaving it outdoors year-round, an annual recoat with a waterproof varnish would be advised.

Best for Heavy People: Yucan Swing-Style Stand

Pros:

High weight capacity suitable for two people
Very sturdy design

Cons:

Hammock chair won’t rotate
Does not look stylish
6.5
Durability8
Portability6
Design & Features4
Value for Money8

Unlike the other stands here which are mostly made from steel, the Yucan hammock chair stand is made from iron and has a sturdy swing-like structure which has given it a much higher weight capacity of 450lbs.

This is almost double the average weight of a male American adult so it should be perfectly suitable for heavy people or for sharing. Despite this strength, it’s still one of the lighter stands shared in this guide.

Not all hammock chairs will be suitable for this stand style because it’s much shorter than the others (60” / 132cm), however, you don’t need to worry about that because it comes with one included. Keep in mind that the chair hangs from the stand via two support points so it cannot rotate like most of the other stands.

The hammock chair itself is durable and made from cotton, however, there is only one color choice which may put some people off.

Although the look of the stand will be open to interpretation, in my opinion, it’s not the most elegant stand on the market. This is the trade-off for the strength that it offers.

Most Portable: Kammok Swiftlet

Pros:

Versatile design
High-quality aluminum stand
Lightweight, ideal for camping

Cons:

Expensive (although worth it)
Hammock can’t rotate
7.3
Durability8
Portability9
Design & Features7
Value for Money5

In the introduction, I promised you a curveball and here we have it. The Kammok Swiftlet is a stand that allows you to use your regular hammock as a hammock chair.

The Swiftlet has two modes; short bar and long bar. When in long bar mode, you can set it up like a traditional portable hammock stand to lie down in. However, when you switch it to the short bar, you’re able to stretch your hammock over the top to use it as a chair as shown in the below image.

This isn’t the only neat thing about it though. Unlike the other metal stands which are steel or iron, this one is made from aluminum which is a lightweight material so the stand weighs just 17.4lbs (7.9kg). The stand is super portable and fast to put up and down.

The use of a premium material like aluminum means that it’s one of the more expensive stands, however, it’s still great value for money as it can be used for different purposes and you’ll save on the cost of buying a separate hammock chair which can cost $100 or more.

Best with Hammock Chair Included: Songmics

Pros:

Comes with hammock chair
Great value for money
Great at supporting larger hammock chairs

Cons:

Lowest weight capacity of those reviewed
7
Durability7
Portability7
Design & Features6
Value for Money8

If you’re looking to take the hassle out of buying a chair and stand, then your best bet is to buy them as a pair so that you know the two are compatible.

The best hammock chair and stand combo comes from Songmics. It’s a fairly typical stand made from aluminum tubing and the included chair is made from a blend of polyester and cotton with a wooden spreader bar at the top. They also throw in two matching cushions for the chair for extra comfort.

The stand is suitable for both indoor or outdoor use and the top hook allows the chair to both rotate and swing freely.

Unfortunately, the weight capacity is slightly below average at 264lbs, so you won’t be able to share this one with a friend. That being said, the spreader bar is quite long at 39” (100cm) so there is plenty of space to relax in the seat.

The footprint of the stand is among the largest of those reviewed at 49”x 49” so you’ll need to ensure you have enough space to accommodate it. The benefit of this is that it’s very sturdy, even with the larger hammock chair.

Related Questions

Which Type of Stand is Better?

There are many different types of hammock chair stand depending upon your requirements including U-shape, C-shape, and swing style. Generally, a U-shape design offers a good balance between style and functionality.

However, you also need to consider the weight capacity, size, and material.

Are Wooden or Metal Hammock Chair Stands Best?

A metal hammock chair stand is better if you want something simple to put up and take down afterwards, however, if you want a permanent stand for your garden, then a wooden stand will often look more elegant and can be regularly treated to ensure it lasts in the long term.

How Do You Hang a Hammock Chair?

There are at least 7 different ways you can hang a hammock chair. The most popular way to hang one indoors is by using a hammock hanging kit and fixing it to the ceiling, however, if you want to avoid drilling or are unsure if your ceiling will support the weight, a hammock chair stand is a viable alternative.

When hanging a hammock chair outdoors, the easiest way to do so is using a tree strap. However, if you don’t have any trees in your backyard, you can also use a stand such as those recommended in this guide.
