My top pick is the Mayan-style hammock chair from Sunnydaze. Like a Mayan hammock, the hammock chair is made from a mesh-like material which is both comfortable and allows the air to circulate freely. This does mean that you might get chilly if using it outdoors during colder weather.
The Sunnydaze hammock chair is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. It’s made a soft polyester netting which gives it some durability. The holes in the mesh also mean it’s great for use at the beach as the sand won’t collect in the seat.
It has a typical hammock chair design with a solid wooden spreader bar and a 40” wide hammock seat. With its 300lb weight limit, the chair is suitable for one person but you could also squeeze a child or pet on too.
Most Comfortable: La Siesta

The La Siesta Habana is the most comfortable hammock chair on the market and a great pick for your bedroom if you’re looking for somewhere to chill, read a book, or take naps.
It’s made from 100% organic cotton which is softer than regular cotton because the fibers are not damaged during handpicking so they are longer (which is a factor in softness). There’s also the sustainability benefit because it’s grown in an eco-friendly way.
The downside to a cotton material is that mold can grow on it if it’s left out in the rain which can weaken the material over time. This is why I recommend this hammock chair for bedrooms or other indoor spaces.
Another reason this hammock is super comfortable is the cadejos in the suspension strings which are commonly found in the types of hammock found in Colombia where these hammocks are made. These are plaits that help with the weight distribution whilst also providing additional strength.
There are 7 different patterns available and three different sizes. Shown here is the comfort size which is the smaller of the three. Being such a high-quality hammock chair, this is also the most expensive of those shared in this review.

It’s made from a blend of cotton and polyester which offers a good balance between comfort and weather resistance so you don’t need to worry if it gets left out in the rain.
As with all hammocks and hammock chairs, I’d still recommend you store it away during the coldest winter months, you can use the included storage bag to assist with this. The hammock is warmer than the previous Mayan-style hammock chair, although it can become more sweaty on hot days as there is little air flow.
It comes with two perfectly sized pillows at 18.5” x 18.5” each and is available in 4 colors with rope tassels for a bohemian look. Inside, there’s a convenient pocket for storing your phone, glasses, book, or anything else.
Best for Camping: Wise Owl

The Wise Owl hammock chair uses the same design and material (210T parachute nylon) as their budget camping hammocks which are some of my favorite products.
This is a highly durable and weather-resistant material as well as being very lightweight. The hammock weighs less than 3lbs and packs into the attached stuff sack to keep it compact in your backpack.
It’s a different design to the other hammock chairs here and can be set up between two trees using the included hammock straps and carabiners as with a traditional camping hammock setup. The straps can be attached in ‘kick back’ or ‘sit up’ positions depending on what you feel like doing.
To give it that little bit extra comfort, it comes with two soft foam cushions for your legs and neck. These go inside the zippered cushion pockets or can be removed to reduce the carry load.
Overall, this is a great value product considering all the extras thrown in and is the top choice for camping, backpacking, or general outdoor use.
Budget Pick: Lazy Daze

Hammock chairs can get a bit pricey, but there are also some decent no-frills budget choices available such as this cotton Mayan-style hammock chair from Lazy Daze.
Cotton is one of the softest materials to use so the chair is very comfortable, however, it’s not particularly durable and can be prone to mold or mildew if left outdoors in wet weather so I’d recommend this one be used indoors.
With a 40” wide spreader bar and a 300lb weight capacity, it comes in around the average size and strength for a hammock chair, despite costing around a third less.
There are three different colors available in brown, natural, or white to match any décor and the hook fitting allows it to hang freely and rotate as you relax. There’s also a larger 47” spreader bar version although it’s often out of stock.
Best with Footrest: ENO Lounger

Eagles Nest Outfitters (ENO) is a well-known brand when it comes to camping hammocks, but one of their lesser-known products is their Lounger hammock chair.
The design is different from most hammock chairs here, it has a total of 3 bars which are made from lightweight aluminum and give it a very open structure. Everything packs away neatly into the included carry sack.
It’s made from ripstop nylon although it’s a much thicker material than you’d typically expect from ENO at 210D compared to their hammocks which are 70D. This means that it’s very durable, although not so packable.
It’s one of the few hammock chairs with a footrest that allows you to fully stretch out and relax. There’s also a built-in water bottle holder so you can enjoy a drink as you relax.
However, it’s also one of the most expensive hammock chairs due to the premium materials used (aluminum and nylon are not cheap) and the overall build quality that you’d expect from ENO.
Best Large Hammock Chair: Bathonly

If you want to ensure you have plenty of room to spread out and relax in your hammock chair, then opt for a large size like this one from Bathonly.
Similar to the Sunnydaze hammock shared earlier, this one is also a rope hammock made from polyester which is durable and reasonably weather resistant, although not as comfortable as the organic cotton used in the La Siesta hammock chair.
With a 47” wide bar the hammock is very spacious, allowing you to arrange your position to lean right back or take more of an upward position. It has a 330lb weight limit which could hold an adult and a child or pet.
Being such a large hammock, it does require more hanging space than the others here, you should ensure you have at least 7’6” of space to hang the hammock chair indoors so it won’t be suitable for smaller rooms.
Best Swing Chair: Patio Watcher Swing

This next recommendation falls between a hammock chair and a swing chair so I thought it was worth a mention. It has an elegant design with bohemian-style tassels which complement modern décor very well.
Unlike the other hammock chairs in this guide which are made solely from fabric, this one has a steel tube to provide a solid structure. The tube has been wrapped in fabric to make it comfortable and the rest of the hammock is made from 100% cotton which is soft and cushioned.
It still has a single hanging point, although it doesn’t have a wooden spreader bar like the previous recommendations so it takes up less room, this is ideal if you’re looking for a hammock chair for a compact space.
The required height to hang it is also shorter at just 50” (127cm) so you can be creative with where you place it. This would be ideal for a small reading nook or attic room where the ceilings are typically shorter.
Despite being compact, it still has a good weight capacity of 330lbs which beats several of the traditional chair designs here. All of the hanging equipment you need is included in the price along with a plump cushion that fits neatly in the seat.
Best for Heavy People: Unipride

My next recommendation is a heavy-duty hammock chair, ideal for heavy people or if you just want peace of mind that it will last for a long time.
Unlike the other stands which typically use a wooden spreader bar, this one uses a metal bar for extra strength. Plus, the material itself is a polycotton blend with 60% polyester to ensure it won’t tear over time. These factors mean it has a 500lb weight capacity which is over 40% more than the other hammock chairs I reviewed here.
Just because it’s a strong hammock, that doesn’t mean it’s not comfortable. It has an ergonomic upright design that supports your back well and comes with two matching pillows included.
Although the spreader bar isn’t too wide, it’s one of the taller chairs so you’ll need at least 6’9” of space between the hanging point and the floor. All of the equipment you need to hang it is included or you can opt for a hammock chair stand to avoid any drilling.
Unfortunately, the hammock doesn’t rotate as well as the other ones here and only comes in one color, so if grey isn’t suitable then you’ll have to look elsewhere.
