Are Hanging Macrame Chairs Comfortable?
Macrame hanging chairs have become very popular in modern interior décor since they have a stylish bohemian look and unlike other hanging chairs such as egg chairs or hammock chairs, they can be used to transform smaller spaces in the home. But, are they comfortable?
Yes, Macrame chairs are very comfortable because they are mostly made from cotton which is a soft and slightly stretchy material known for its comfort. The outer ring is typically made from steel or aluminum tubing to provide structure, but this is also wrapped in cotton to maintain the soft touch.
The large open weave of Macrame chairs allows plenty of airflow so you don’t get too sweaty and most come with a plump cushion sized perfectly for the seat.

Keep reading to find out the pros and cons of each recommendation.
At the end of the article, I’ve put together a full comparison table so you can see each product side-by-side with all the key specs.
Best Overall: Y-Stop
Pros:
Cons:
My top pick is the Y-Stop macrame chair which offers a great balance between style, function, and price.
It can be used with one anchor point which allows it to swivel, or two anchor points so that it’s more like a swing. it’s made from soft cotton with bohemian style tassels hanging below. Y-stop are known for making good hammocks at affordable prices and this hanging chair is no different.
The size of the seat is 80 x 60cm (approx. 32” x 24”) which is about average when compared to the other chairs here. It has a weight capacity of 330lbs (150kg) which means it is only suitable for one person.
The Y-Stop is available in grey, beige, and white although there are no darker colors if that’s more your style. The chair comes with a plump pillow and all of the hanging hardware which makes it a great deal.
Most Comfortable: Lazy Daze
Pros:
Cons:
If you’re creating a cozy nook in your home and comfort is the most important factor, then spend a little more on the Lazy Daze macrame chair and you won’t regret it.
It has a higher back than most other chairs at 43cm (16.9”) which provides more support, plus it comes with a padded cushion that’s superior to any other cushion included with a macrame chair thanks to its unique shape that perfectly fits the chair.
At the top of the chair is a second ring that keeps the suspension ropes spread well apart, this improves the balance of the chair and prevents them from rubbing against you. However, it does mean that this chair is best when hung from a single anchor point and is well suited to a swing mode.
Although this chair is the most expensive out of those reviewed in this guide, it’s well worth the extra money if you can spare it.
Largest Chair: Greenstell
Pros:
Cons:
If you’re a believer that bigger is better, then the Greenstell macrame hanging chair will be perfect for you since it’s the largest currently available on the market.
Measuring 102 x 83cm (approx. 40” x 33”), the chair is around a third larger than your typical macrame chair so there will be plenty of room to find a comfy position and it will be well suited to larger people.
It also has a slightly above-average weight capacity of 350lbs, although it is still only suitable for one person to hang in at a time.
There’s a smaller version of the Greenstell chair available which measures 81 x 61cm (32” x 24”) putting it in line with the rest of the market in terms of size. The larger chair is available in beige, blue, and grey, whilst the smaller one is only available in grey.
Like most of the chairs, it comes with all of the hanging hardware to attach it to the ceiling plus a small plump cushion although I would have liked to see a larger pillow to match the larger size chair.
Budget Pick: Everking
Pros:
Cons:
If you’re on a tighter budget, there’s still a chair for you and that’s the Everking chair. Like the other chairs, the netting is still made from 100% cotton material and it’s the same dimensions as the Y-stop which was my top pick.
However, it has the lowest weight capacity of 265lbs. This is still well above the average weight of an adult, but it does mean the chair is less durable than the others here.
The chair is available in white or beige and has the usual suspension strings which can be hung from a single anchor point or in swing mode from two anchor points.
There’s no pillow or hanging hardware included like the other products, although there is an option to upgrade and add the hanging hardware if needed, it’s still a great price.
Best Black Chair: Giantex
Pros:
Cons:
So far, all of the chairs have been available in only light colors, but that’s where Giantex have differentiated their product by offering black and green chairs alongside the usual white and beige options.
I have recommended Giantex products before such as in my article on the best folding hammocks because they are generally reliable products at an affordable price.
Aside from the additional color options, the Giantex product is fairly similar in size and strength to the Y-Stop which was my main recommendation. It’s suitable for holding up to 330lbs and can be used indoors or outside.
However, keep in mind that it doesn’t come with a cushion or hanging kit which explains why it’s fairly well priced.
Best With Lights: Surpcos
Pros:
Cons:
This next macrame chair takes bohemian to a whole new level because it comes with rope lights included.
There are two sets of string lights, one with star shaped lights and one with circular lights. These are battery-powered (requires 3 x AA batteries) and can be wrapped around the chair and suspension to add some extra ambiance while you hang out.
Whilst the chair is suitable for indoors or out, keep in mind that the lights are only suitable for indoors. The chair has a high weight limit compared to others reviewed here and is about average in terms of size, suitable for one person only.
Unlike others in this review, it doesn’t come with a cushion but you can add your own to make it fit with your home décor. It does come with everything needed to hang it from the ceiling although many users have said the instructions are not well detailed so you might want to get a handyman to install it for you.
Best for Two People: Grassman
Pros:
Cons:
The final macrame chair that I recommend is from Grassman and it’s suitable for two people. The chair is 110cm (43”) wide and it has thicker macrame netting than the other chairs to ensure it does not break.
Although it’s much wider than the other chairs reviewed here, the weight capacity is still 330lbs so, unless you’re both small adults, it’s best suited to sharing with one adult and children/pets.
It can still be hung in the same way as the other chairs, using a single point of contact or two points for a swing-style setup.
It doesn’t come with a pillow or hardware to hang it from the ceiling so you’ll need to either buy these separately or invest in a hammock chair stand.
