When buying a hammock stand, you’ll need to ensure that it’s got a suitable capacity to match your hammock and the weight you’ll be putting in it. This is important if you’re above-average weight or will be regularly sharing the hammock.

Having reviewed hammock stands of all shapes and sizes, I’ve put together this guide with my recommended heavy-duty stands that have a weight capacity of 450lbs or more.

How Much Weight Can a Hammock Stand Hold?

A typical single hammock stand will have a weight capacity of 300lbs whereas a double hammock stand should hold 400lbs.

Heavy-duty hammock stands will have a weight limit between 450-550lbs which makes them ideal for larger adults or sharing. You should also ensure that you have a suitable heavy-duty hammock to accompany the stand.

What Size Hammock Stand Do I Need?

When choosing a hammock stand, you should typically look for a stand that is 2 feet longer than your hammock. For example, a 10-foot hammock requires a 12-foot hammock stand.

However, not all stands are made equal. Some stands have space-saving designs that allow them to accommodate longer hammocks, whereas others come with chains that allow you to use them with shorter hammocks.

It’s always best to refer to the manufacturer’s recommended hammock size for your stand.

Best Heavy Duty Hammock Stands

The best heavy duty hammock stands you can buy right now are:

In the rest of this article, I’ll share my full review of each recommendation and run through some key pros and cons to help you make the right decision.

Best Overall: Sunny Daze

Suitable for a broad range of hammock sizes up to 14 foot
Comes with a one-year warranty
Great value for money

Length: 10’4ft // Weight Capacity: 550lbs // Material: Steel // Price: $$ // Recommended Hammock Size: 9-14 feet // Hammock Included? No

The Sunny Daze heavy-duty hammock stand is my top recommended hammock stand thanks to its sturdy build and versatility.

The stand is made of stainless steel tubing which provides strength without adding too much weight. This makes it suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. It also gives the stand its huge 550lb weight capacity.

The design has been engineered so that it can be used for hammocks of all shapes and sizes, despite being just 10’4ft long. There are S-hooks and two 18-inch chains included that can be used to attach smaller hammocks, making it suitable for any hammock between 9-14ft.

You could use both gathered end and spreader bar hammocks, however, it would work best with gathered end styles such as Brazilian or Mayan hammocks.

Sunny Daze is a reputable home goods brand that provides a one-year warranty for all their products, including this heavy-duty stand.

Best for Indoors: Giantex

Space-saving design is ideal for small spaces
Clips together easily without tools
Range of suitable hammock sizes is smaller than the Sunny Daze stand

Length: 9ft // Weight Capacity: 550lbs // Material: Steel // Price: $ // Recommended Hammock Size: 9-12 feet // Hammock Included? No

This stand from Giantex is another great heavy-duty hammock stand that uses a similar concept to the Sunny Daze stand. It also has a 550lb weight rating but you’ll benefit from a slightly slimmer profile which might be ideal for smaller areas.

The stand is made of coated steel pipes which have been treated to protect them from corrosion and rust. However, I’d still recommend covering it up or taking it down during the winter months when it’s not in use.

The stand will fit hammocks in the region of 9-12ft long and would be best suited to Brazilian hammocks or other gathered end styles.

It’s easy to put together with few tools required thanks to the spring pins that hold it together. Where screws are required such as on the hooks, these are high quality and weather treated.

Most Stable: Songmics

Very cheap considering the quality
Sturdy design with little risk of tipping over
Included hammock is not the most comfortable

Length: 10’4ft // Weight Capacity: 550lbs // Material: Steel // Price: $ // Recommended Hammock Size: 6’10ft // Hammock Included? Yes (Brazilian)

The Songmics heavy-duty hammock stand puts sturdiness right at the top of the priority list with their extra-long rails that extend along the bottom of the stand to prevent any tipping or knocking over.

The stand is made from iron tubing that slots together easily. Iron is stronger than stainless steel in the earlier stands, but it’s also heavier which is why this stand weighs around 42lbs once fully built.

The stand uses a space-saving design that’s suitable for any gathered end hammock. It comes with a 6’10ft Brazilian style hammock made from cotton-polyester. It’s not the most comfortable of hammocks so I’d still recommend getting a 100% organic cotton hammock which is the most comfortable hammock material.

Most Portable: Lazy Daze

Easy to transport with a gross weight of 57lbs
Suitable for larger 12 foot hammocks
No carry case included

Length: 15ft // Weight Capacity: 450lbs // Material: Steel // Price: $$ // Recommended Hammock Size: 10-12 feet // Hammock Included? No

The final heavy-duty hammock stand on my list is this 15ft steel stand from Lazy Daze. Simple in design, the stand is suitable for hammocks between 10–12ft and is recommended by the manufacturer to be used for quilted hammocks with a spreader bar, although would also be suitable for gathered end style hammocks too.

The stand is made from 120 gauge steel bars that are put together with quick release pins, this makes it an ideal portable hammock stand as it can be constructed and de-constructed very easily. I’d recommend putting it away during the winter months when not in use.

Included are hooks for each end and two x 20.5” chains that can be used for hanging smaller hammocks. The steel is powder-coated and all of the fittings are zinc coated for protection from rusting. Despite its heavy capacity, the stand is still lightweight and would be suitable for indoor or outdoor use.

Best Wooden Stand: Caribbean Hammocks

Wooden design looks more elegant
Ideal for both gathered end and spreader bar style hammocks
More expensive than a steel stand
Hard to take down once erected

Length: 13ft // Weight Capacity: 550lbs // Material: Wood (Siberia Larch Wood) // Price: $$$ // Recommended Hammock Size: 9-11feet // Hammock Included? No

This stand from Caribbean Hammocks is the most heavy-duty curved hammock stand with a 550lb weight capacity that rivals some of the steel stands shared earlier.

It’s made from Siberian larch wood which has been kiln dried and treated for protection against the weather. Siberian larch is known for its durability due to being grown in sub-zero temperatures and exported across the world for use in house cladding.

All of the tools are provided to put the stand together including the screws and hooks which have all been zinc coated to ensure they don’t rust easily.

The stand is suitable for hammocks up to a maximum of 11ft long. There are two chains included that allow you to hang smaller hammocks with the minimum length being 9ft. The stand is suitable for both spreader bar and gathered end hammocks, although it will probably provide a better sag for spreader bar hammocks.

Best Curved Stand: Petra

Quick to assemble in less than 20 minutes
Cheaper than wooden stands in the same style
Fits large hammocks up to 13 foot
Not great on uneven surfaces

Length: 15ft // Weight Capacity: 450lbs // Material: Steel // Price: $$ // Recommended Hammock Size: 11-13 feet // Hammock Included? No

The next heavy duty stand is a curved design made from galvanized steel. This is notable as curved stands are usually made from wood. However, Petra have gone above and beyond to ensure the stand is as strong as possible whilst still looking elegant.

The steel has been powder coated and all of the fittings have been coated with black oxide to ensure they don’t rust over time. It comes with the option of black, brown, or bronze finish depending upon which best suits your backyard.

Despite the heavy duty materials, the stand is easy to put together and should take no longer than 20 minutes with two people. It’s also fairly lightweight, weighing just 60lbs, but can still hold up to 450lbs once constructed.

The stand itself is 15ft long, but it comes with two x 20-inch chains which can be used for hanging shorter hammocks. The stand would be best for hammocks between 11-13ft long and is suitable for both gathered end and spreader bar hammocks, although doesn’t come with any included.

The design of the stand is best suited to level surfaces or softer ground. If you try to place it on an uneven surface, the stand may rock.

Best for Large Hammocks: Vivere

Pairs perfectly with Vivere hammocks which are super comfortable
Treated with a premium pine finish
450lb weight limit is smaller than most other heavy-duty stands

Length: 15ft // Weight Capacity: 450lbs // Material: Wood (European Larch Wood) // Price: $$$ // Recommended Hammock Size: 10-12 feet // Hammock Included? No

This Vivere hammock stand is one of the biggest wooden stands going which makes it perfect for large spreader bar hammocks and family-size gathered end hammocks.

It’s made with European larch wood that’s usually found in the Alps. Despite being a softwood, European larch is known for its high density which makes it very strong, whilst still being easy to work with as is the case with softwoods.

The wood is treated with a wood oil that adds a pine finish and keeps it protected in all weather conditions so you can leave it out year-round. If you do buy a wooden stand, I would still recommend re-applying wood stain or protective oil each year to ensure it lasts.

The stand is 5ft high and a whopping 15 ft long which makes it ideal for any hammock between 10 – 12ft long. There are chains included for hanging shorter hammocks. The stand has a 450lb weight limit which means it can handle two adults at a time.
